On behalf of the Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir), ideas2evidence has conducted a graduate survey aimed at people who have completed either the Norwegian Artistic Research Fellowship Programme or a doctoral degree programme in artistic research at a Norwegian institution of higher education during the period 2007–2021.

The main purpose of the survey was to map what kind of benefits the candidates have received by completing the program, and what significance the program has had for the candidates' further professional careers.

The survey finds that most candidates feel that the program has been useful to them. The program has especially contributed to their own professional and artistic development. They have become more confident as professionals, gained more theoretical and practical insight into the field, and have developed as artists. For many, the program has been a door opener, and provided new opportunities in the labour market. Almost all candidates have relevant jobs, but the proportion who have a permanent position is relatively low (39 per cent). Some candidates highlight the need for more relevant and permanent job openings.
